Carnival season is in full swing down here in New Orleans, and anyone who’s ever been here knows Carnival is serious business. From January 6th to Mardi Gras, which falls on February 28th in 2017, it’s king cakes and parade routes, dancing and Mardi gras beads and baubles, wild outfits and great food and drink.
In the midst of all the partying, or even if you’re hundreds of miles removed from New Orleans, one detail that shouldn’t go overlooked is instilling a little Carnival flavor in your home. This will help get you in the mood for some partying after a tense day at work, unwind and relax after that bright and bubbly parade circuit, or feel more connected if you’re not in the area but would love to celebrate like a true New Orleanian.
Perhaps most importantly, Carnival colors are green, purple, and gold, so go crazy with them!
- Start and end your day with the warm and cozy embrace of our Sheepy Fleece Robe—in Plum, of course! I can see this robe being the foundation of a fabulous pre-party ritual: fragrant bath, followed by a leisurely getting-pretty session while wrapped in its plush folds.
- Add a Mardi-themed wreath to your front door, mantel, or wherever you commonly hang a holiday wreath.
- Create a Mardi-themed tablescape by using purple, green, and gold dishes. Marsha of Marsha’s Creekside Creations did a fantastic job with both wreath and tablescape, don’t you think?
- Add some neutral gold or champagne pillows and drapes, such as our Crown Embellished Decorative Pillow or Faux Silk Drape Panels in Champagne to give your home a sense of royalty and remind you of the story of the three kings during this special time.
- Mardi bead-dazzle your home by incorporating parade beads into your décor. Fill a glass bowl with beads. Hang strands of them from a staircase banister. Use them to emphasize curtain swags and tie backs. There are so many places for beads to make a simple, subtle accent!
- Finally, end your day by sliding between a set of Bamboo sheets—gold, naturally—that will give your body the perfect rest it craves. Whether you’ve been traveling the parade route and just need some amazing boneless sleep or if you just want sweet dreams of NOLA, Bamboo sheets are the way to go.
